Liesl Ruff (Diploma of eBusiness Support) - Melbourne
|
After working in retail for seven years Liesl Ruff felt like she was going nowhere, and that she didn't want to work in the industry for the rest of her life. Liesl wanted to do something that she would not only enjoy but excel at, and she started to look at other career options.
"I had always enjoyed working with computers and felt naturally at ease with technology, so I looked into starting a course with Computer Power. What appealed to me initially was not only the type of courses on offer, but also the self-paced learning structure, which subsequently proved to be a real advantage as I juggled work and study".
"I had the flexibility to take as long as I needed on subjects that I found more challenging, and likewise, I was able to spend less time on those I found easy, and in February 2004 I graduated with a Diploma of e-Business Support".
Since graduating, Liesl has kept in close contact with Meg Thomson who has helped her every step of the way though the job hunting process from fine-tuning her resume to developing interview skills, and to securing a role at EDS as a Quality Assurance Specialist.
"Working in a fast-paced environment such as EDS has opened my eyes to a whole other world of opportunity, and in the year that I have been with the company I have had the chance to make use of, and build on the many skills I acquired while studying for my diploma. I am now branching out into other teams within the company to lend a hand when needed. I finally feel like I am doing exactly what I should be".
"To anyone thinking about taking the first step in changing their career, I would strongly recommend looking into a course with Computer Power. It doesn't take three years like most university courses do, and the qualifications are highly regarded within the IT industry (it's not just something people say, from being in the industry I can tell you it IS actually true!) You can work at your own pace, you have the one-on-one support of the instructors and you have a whole team of industry specialists at your disposal. It is something that definitely should be taken advantage of, and it has certainly paid off for me!" Back
