2. I am planning to study part-time, when I finish my course in three years will my skills be obsolete?
Computer Power has been training people in IT for over 40 years, and we know that the IT industry is constantly evolving as new technologies emerge. We operate to quality standards and practice continuous improvement in all our business areas. Our program of courses are constantly revised and improved to ensure that the latest programs, tools and techniques are taught, so you can be assured that you will graduate with the latest skills demanded by industry.
3. I am only an IT beginner; will I still be able to complete a course?
Computer Power has courses to suit all skill levels including beginners and people with limited IT skills. As our courses are self directed, you can study at a speed that you are comfortable with to your skill level.
4. What is self directed learning and why is it unique?
The Self- directed style of learning offered by Computer Power is unique in that it allows you to take control of your own learning. You will attend the Institute on personalised schedule agreed to at enrolment. All the resources you require are supplied for you and Instructors are on hand to support you in working through your qualification. Unlike a traditional school you will not be learning in classroom with one teacher, taking you through a topic at a time. instead you will be working on an open training floor at your own work station. This means that you can study at your own pace and not be held back by students who are learning more slowly. Most students find that there are topics that they find much easier than others. This means that you have the opportunity to fast- track through easier courseware and spend more time on more challenging sections. There are no conflicting assessment and class times to worry about. If you miss a day of study, you can pick up exactly where you were without having to catch up with the rest of a class.
5. What is the level of flexibility that Computer Power is able to offer?
How can I fit study into my already busy schedule?
Computer Power offers full time part time or full time study programs. You may choose to study between 8 and 25 hours per week depending on your visa status and student allowance requirement.(International students must study a minimum of 20 hours per week according to the terms of their student permit and Domestic students must study a minimum of 20 hours per week to qualify for a student allowance).
In order to ensure that you complete your qualification on time, after enrolment you may only increase the number of hours per week that you study so it is important to consider your personal commitments in advance and discuss these with our enrolment staff so that they may advise you.
At Computer Power we appreciate that everyone has different lifestyles and commitments. To accommodate these, you may choose one of three different shift options- Morning, Afternoon or Evening. Campuses are open Monday to Thursday 7.30am - 10.00pm, Friday 7.30am - 6.00pm and Saturday 8.00am - 1.00pm. (Please check with our local campuses in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch as some times may vary).
